This local monopoly meant local clubs often would lose all their best players by 8th grade, even when they could otherwise compete at younger age levels. The recent expansion by MLSN/GA and even ECNL to a degree has blown this up enough to where there's actual more opportunity for players to stay with their home clubs and more of these local clubs are getting their kids recruited to college more than ever before.

Now, of course, people also complain about dilution and haivng to travel more (even though yes we probably could now play each other more -- although no one wants to lose to each other). As they say, the grass is always greener.[/quote]
