Deferred by EA Michigan, NO ED 1 VANDERBILT, NO ED2 Rice. 1530 SAT, 12 AP, with 6, 5's the rest 4s, NIH internships 2x, Captain sports team senior year, strong ecs, public school 3.85 (4.7 w), other EC's, on noteworthy award and an expert helped build his story/profile. Waiting for RD Emory, UWash, Duke, Wisconsin, VA, Miami, a couple UC, Tufts, Case, JHU, Cornell but very worried. I know at least one of the teacher recs was stellar teacher shared she was thrilled to promote her. Outgoing kid, but I guess similar to other profiles.
On the same boat. Deferred ED1, Deferred ED2. Bummed. Have another 10 RD pending. If anything works out in RD, great. But they are all crap shots in RD. DC is moving on to their EA acceptance schools now.
I am actually not as pessimistic on this one. ED deferrals basically say the application is admissible but it's not our priority, or there is some weakness one committee member wasn't sure about (often major). Don't count on any of the deferrals converting to an acceptance. It's still very difficult. But you are not overshotting. It's likely the application could pass the committee review in one of the RD schools.
Agree with this assessment on messaging and overshooting. And it's true that deferral probably meant some amount of disagreement in committee (whether as compared to the rest of the pool (region or HS) and/or major). And if a boy, plan on some WLs now and prepare LOCIs so you are not scrambling with a strategy in early April.
