Regarding the ballroom…. Private donations are not a legitimate funding source for federal buildings/activities. Lawsuits we’ll tell if it is considered a legal source. Because as can be seen by current donations - the money coming in is thinly veiled bribes. Don’t want a tariff on your company….donate to the ballroom. But I would expect private donations will be determined to unlawful for federal activities. Federal spending is determined by Congress - you know that constitutional thing - power of the purse. And just because current speaker of the house and senate majority leader are not exercising congressional oversight - doesn’t mean that will always be the case.
Not only do these private donations constitute bribes, they are also tax-deductible. Which means they are bribes that the taxpayers are subsidizing. Were there no ballroom, these donors would instead be giving the money to legitimate charities. The plane from Qatar is a bribe too. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the US give Qatar preferential treatment because of it. Trump isn't the only president to engage in quid pro quo with other countries, but Trump is unique in that the arrangements benefit him personally instead of the nation. Trump bragged about how the plane was "free" but we're going to spend hundreds of millions fixing it up - just in time for him to leave office and take the plane with him. We also saw this with the withholding of funds to Ukraine that led to his first impeachment - finding "dirt" on Joe Biden certainly doesn't benefit the nation.
