From my perspective I just donate the bare minimum. For a 60k tuition I think i contribute enough to the school budget.
you understand that what you pay in tuition doesn't actually cover the cost of tuition, right? so you are basically sloping off others who are filling the gap for you.
That is a lie. If you are full pay you are already paying more than the average due to financial aid. Most families are also not in a position to make a significant donation. Full pay is already more than the average, so you are actually subsidizing the financial aid families. Full pay typically covers about 1.2 to 1.25 kids in the overall school budget.
It’s not at all a lie. Tuition doesn’t cover the full cost of educating your kid. We are full pay and contribute the difference between tuition and the full cost of educating our kid.
It is nice that you donate, but a full pay kid does not leave a gap in the budget. That would just be bad business. The budget gaps come from things like the financial aid program, expensive extracurricular like sports, drama, band, chorus, and so on. These are not central to education in core subjects and are huge expenses. Donations fund these non essentials. Landscaping, financial aid, field trips, new athletic facilities, and so on. Keep donating if you want to support these. But know that your full pay tuition is already going well beyond the cost for your one kid.
