[/quote] And even to get to a VP or SVP level at many Fortune 500 companies you have to be pretty ruthless. If you get that far without exploiting colleagues or treating them badly, then it’s likely you exploited your family or your household employees (wife, nanny, mother) in order to extract the time and labor needed to allow you to focus on your career progression. It’s been interesting to watch the trajectories of my most successful business school classmates. Even people who are still my friends because of our shared history are people who I wouldn’t be friends with now. They are ruthless in their fields and have treated me in some pretty unkind or thoughtless ways over the years- but the are socially clever about it so it’s nothing I could pinpoint to an outsider.[/quote]
