So, they keep ramping it up because they have everything at their easy access. They need something more extreme to feel something and to feel special/have things others don't have. In no way excusing it, it's horrible, but I don't think these people all start off as bad people. Even look at the first wives and children of some of these folks - seem like normal, decent people.
