You should go visit Mizzou’s TV studio—saw it this year and it’s amazing (from this parent and journalist perspective—the students who are training on it every day are getting fantastic hands-on experience, as are the students working at the local daily paper). The counselor is spot/on to suggest this as a fit for hands-on experience. Columbia, Mo. is a cute college town, too.
+1. My kid visited Mizzou’s Journalism facilties this fall, and is now commited to the school. She was quite impressed with the number of hands on opportunities, and the “Mizzou Mafia” network. They also matched in-state tuitiion for her. The OP’s kid is not interested though.
The OP's kid might not even know anything about Colombia as a college town. I would have my kid visit and see it so they know what they are rejecting.
