In those specific areas, you might want to add LMU when you visit Chapman/USC.
Outside of the areas you mentioned, I believe FSU has a good reputation and you did not mention any of the art schools like SCAD or UNCSA. Possibly UNC Wilmington or Emory of other options in Atlanta, due to large production studios in those areas. Lastly, if Journalism is of interest, you might want to add Marquette when you visit Chicago.

Married to a Mizzou grad. He loved his experience on campus, but moved ASAP after graduation.

The J School is highly ranked, and mostly draws students from out of state.

I suggest visiting Emerson- they have a tour and show you some of the tv production studios- my vote is for them as they partner with other area schools and your DC can take classes with this partnership. DD highly considered Emerson but really wants to go the fine arts route (illustration).

I wouldn’t pay for an NYU or Elon unless your child is adamant about journalism or performing arts.

The University of Georgia is also known for a top tier program with hands on experience. UGA is home to the Peabody Awards, which is a big deal in this domain.

Going to school in Missouri doesn’t mean you will live in Missouri after graduation.

Question for OP.

You wrote graphic design and TV production.

A lot of the responses are listing journalism schools. Is your child interested in tv journalism production or television production in general? There is a difference between tv journalism and entertainment production/film making.

SEC schools have tons of opportunities for students in the comms/media tracks to do work with sports production. My son is at Bama and one of his upperclass mentors does game day productions for at home football games including camera operations. It’s very good hands on experience

+1. My kid visited Mizzou’s Journalism facilties this fall, and is now commited to the school. She was quite impressed with the number of hands on opportunities, and the “Mizzou Mafia” network. They also matched in-state tuitiion for her. The OP’s kid is not interested though.

The OP's kid might not even know anything about Colombia as a college town. I would have my kid visit and see it so they know what they are rejecting.

My DC has similar interests but will be attending a SLAC. School doesn’t have a communication major specifically, but hopefully DC will study an interdisciplinary field that taps into the school’s initiative on arts, creativity, and design.
