[/quote] Since you have a mudroom, I'm guessing your house isn't *that* old. Maybe 20-25 years? If so, the light switches could be on/off switches intended for lamps within that room, plugged into the right side of an outlet where you put a side table or something. If the lamps are switched "on" the light switch will control the lamp when you walk in the room... We have these in a few rooms in our 2005 house.[/quote]
