I like Aldi a lot. They have great things at the holidays (and after the holidays - like 99 cent chocolate truffles - clearance! - a weeka ago). But hate their applesauce. It has high fructose corn syrup. Also they don't have whole wheat rolls or English muffins usually. Limited selection. But a lot of good stuff. Very reasonable cauliflower. a pint of cherry tomatoes for 99 cents! Fancy cheeses. Cheap cheese sticks. Great OJ.
I love Aldi too, and agree that you can find great buys on things that you didn't plan on buying--looking at you, dark chocolate, sea-salt caramels! But I do most of my shopping there and then stop off at Giant on the way home to get the stuff I can't get there, or prefer the brand name of (Laundry detergent, english muffins, coffee creamer, etc). Aldi's produce is better than Giant's and MUCH less expensive. I'm actually a bit nervous that after this thread, Aldi is going to be packed ;) I like to think that Aldi was my little secret
