But hate their applesauce. It has high fructose corn syrup. Also they don't have whole wheat rolls or English muffins usually. Limited selection. But a lot of good stuff. Very reasonable cauliflower. a pint of cherry tomatoes for 99 cents! Fancy cheeses. Cheap cheese sticks. Great OJ.
I love Aldi too, and agree that you can find great buys on things that you didn't plan on buying--looking at you, dark chocolate, sea-salt caramels! But I do most of my shopping there and then stop off at Giant on the way home to get the stuff I can't get there, or prefer the brand name of (Laundry detergent, english muffins, coffee creamer, etc). Aldi's produce is better than Giant's and MUCH less expensive. I'm actually a bit nervous that after this thread, Aldi is going to be packedI like to think that Aldi was my little secret

We are now seriously on a budget, and i have found it worth it to go to Aldi for most things. They are half the price of Giant or Safeway. I just bought a cart full of food for $84. Easily $150+ at my local Giant. I don't have time to cut coupoins, I prefer to go to the store where I know most things are cheapest. When I first started shopping at Aldi I heard alot of noise from the kids and DH about the "sketchy food." But ever since my husband went with me and saw how cheap it it, he's a believer.
Here is my ranking for the other stores:
If Aldi's off brands are off-putting, go to Walmart, were the brand names are cheaper. (I can't afford to shop philosophically right now).
Shoppers is next, although the stores are kind of gross. Their produce seems to rot almost before you get home. Magruders is about the same pricewise, but with nicer produce.
Target has cheap brand name food. Their up and up brand households products are well priced, too.
Giant and Safeway are for emergencies only.
Also, remember store brands are your friend.
