Yes I developed a huge crush on my surgeon when I had to have surgery. Even when it was happening, I understood that it was sort of a psychological trick -- I was in a huge amount of pain and he was going to get rid of my pain, he was very kind to me during a very difficult time in my life, and also I was completely vulnerable to him during surgery. But even though I understood why it was happening it was super embarrassing to feel that way about my doctor. To this day I wonder if I said anything inappropriate to him or anyone else on the staff while going under or while waking up (zero memory of either). I am sure it happens, even if I didn't. Now I think back on it and feel so embarrassed by the whole thing.
This has happened to me -- it was really intense. I think it's a thing. They are saving you, and they also just are handling your body is this very visceral way. You have to trust them. You have to give your body to them for a while. It faded after a few months, luckily.
PP here and yes, it totally faded. I had to go in for a follow up a couple months later to make sure I was in the clear, and while I was still very grateful to him (and feeling super embarrassed by the memory of my very intense feelings for him previously), it had pretty much gone away and normalized. I feel like it must happen all the time. This particular surgeon had amazing bedside manner, even my DH commented on how comforting and reassuring he is. I bet lots of his patients have fallen for him.
