We looked at a very similar house in this same neighborhood a year or so ago. Its hard to tell in the photos, but a lot of houses in that nabe are built into the slope, so the upstairs bedrooms actually walk out into the yard. It makes the first floor dark and I don't know, was just odd. It was a nice area though.
this is what it sounds like is happening here. Some sort of slope. I don't know, though - That is a buttload of space for the money closer in within woodson district to actually have a decent amount walkable.
We looked at every house for sale in central and western Fairfax in the winter of 2011 ;). I feel like we saw it all. Have you looked in the Canterbury Woods neighborhood? Very similar feel and excellent elementary (and better lots). Go to franklymls and search for es=canterbury woods and look for the Chaucer-inspired street names. I also liked some of the older Fairfax City bungalow neighborhoods. Our friends live on this street and like it very much. The location is convenient if you can deal with the traffic congestion in that area. http://franklymls.com/FC7966155
