90% of men and women have sex before marriage. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16287113/ns/health-sexual_health/t/even-grandma-had-premarital-sex-survey-finds/#.UOGZorTR319 It's time to stop pretending that this is about self-control. I really want to hear the "spreading her legs" poster tell us that HE was a virgin before marriage.
It was a female who wrote this post and while I wasn't a virgin, I paid for my own birth control and did not get pregnant. I also did not randomly have sex, and when I did, it was with someone who was taking responsibility for his own life. In other words, I made good choices. I understood that I, as a woman, could get pregnant, and didn't treat that lightly. Where self-control came in, is in making good choices.
Look, I don't treat pregnancy lightly either. I pay for my own birth control and I am very careful about using it properly. I consider the possibility of unintended pregnancy when choosing my partners. However, I support universal birth control for many reasons: 1. Many women do not have access to the education, resources, and health insurance that I do. Making birth control widely available will help to fill in that gap. 2. Birth control is best for the greater good. It is much cheaper [for taxpayers] to fund birth control rather than unintended pregnancies and social services for those children. 3. Birth control is widely used to mitigate a variety of medical problems. 4. Focusing on "self-control" is just another way of demeaning women and trying to control their sexuality.
