Wow I didn’t know Bethesda Magazine did this. Do they do this in other cities too? Either in DMV or in other major cities in the US? I’d be interested in comparing this area to other regions (Detroit / Chicago, NY/NJ/Boston, LA/SF, Seattle).
I don't know any details of how it's collected, but for the state of Michigan, college enrollment data for public high schools is searchable on this website: https://www.mischooldata.org/college-enrollment-destination/ It can take a minute to learn your way around the filtering/updating. (There're some nuances on how public magnets are reported, for example.) (When inside a report, "Edit" will take you back to filter selections. Use "Update Report" after reseting filters.) So, for example, if you want to know where 2024 (2025 isn't available yet) graduates of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor went, set high school graduation year to "2023-24", ISD to "Washtenaw ISD (81)", district to "Ann Arbor Public Schools (81010)", then click "Update Report" to get a "Snapshot" report. The "Data Explorer" radio will give you all schools for that graduation year, not just the top ones. The "H.S. Graduation Year Trend" will give you the past ten years of numbers for the current top ten schools.
