Lil ole Bethesda magazine in local DMV?? Why can't US news or a higher Ed outlet compare regions if they don't already in their ridiculous rankings?

Yep underrated in that it's on a fault line

Outside of the Michigan public high school data someone posted, the UCs also post Applicants/Acceptances/Attendance by high school. That's how I found out our local public does just as good, if not better, than the private we're considering (at least for UCs).

I am in Michigan. The state publishes matriculation data for Michigan high schools. The affluent areas around Detroit are a major source of Michigan and MSU students. It looks like very few public school kids from "good districts" go out of state.

I don't know any details of how it's collected, but for the state of Michigan, college enrollment data for public high schools is searchable on this website:

https://www.mischooldata.org/college-enrollment-destination/

It can take a minute to learn your way around the filtering/updating. (There're some nuances on how public magnets are reported, for example.) (When inside a report, "Edit" will take you back to filter selections. Use "Update Report" after reseting filters.)

So, for example, if you want to know where 2024 (2025 isn't available yet) graduates of Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor went, set high school graduation year to "2023-24", ISD to "Washtenaw ISD (81)", district to "Ann Arbor Public Schools (81010)", then click "Update Report" to get a "Snapshot" report. The "Data Explorer" radio will give you all schools for that graduation year, not just the top ones. The "H.S. Graduation Year Trend" will give you the past ten years of numbers for the current top ten schools.

Lol it's local news. Why would you be interested in other cities? How are they relevant?

My daughter, class of '26, has a friend who is applying to CA schools. Her friend has family in CA and has visited there often throughout her life.

It's a wonderful place to go to school if it's within your budget!

Wesleyan, 55 applied, 18 accepted, 7 going.

What are you getting at here? I honestly don’t know. These are very different schools imo.

Once you're in a UC you can get good grades then transfer out to a higher ranked UC

Surprised that there are students who apply to, and attend, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and most strikingly, UC Riverside.

Riverside may be the most underrated UC.
