My DD swam Divisionals at Cardinal Hill last year. She swam All Stars at Pinecrest the very next week and dropped over a half a second. Lots of kids get best times. It’s less about the pool and more about the competition. But if you don’t want to go, don’t go. There are plenty of other kids who want to be there and would be happy to take your place.
+1 But the people who complain still go. Why? Because it is clearly special and important to their kids.
It’s a weird humble brag. Like oh sure my kid always makes ias and we can’t decide if we can be bothered to attend. Yes there is definitely a set of kids who always makes it. It’s probably not as special for them. But for the kids on the bubble who make it a couple times in their swim career it’s really super exciting. The swim times don’t really matter. It’s all about the experience.
I think you mistook my post. It was not at all a brag, humble or otherwise. There are posters who say things like "The water will be hot, the pool will be slow, it’s not very deep, and the weather is almost always hot. It’s terrible! Rarely do people swim their best times, or at least in my family. Divisionals is the way to end the season." Then poster I responded to said "But if you don’t want to go, don’t go. There are plenty of other kids who want to be there and would be happy to take your place" and I agreed adding that most of the complainers will also still go because while the pooh pooh it, for most kids including those of the complainers, whether they make it 1 year or every year they still enjoy.
My kids have made it for a number of years now and we go so that they are happy. Me, the PP, and dozens of other parents still have the right to think it is pretty awful. Because in reality it is. Sitting in weather of 100 degrees on the parking lots, fields, etc is also borderline unsafe for not only the swimmers but the parents and volunteers. There is a better way to do this and it does not include putting people’s health at risk. Then if there are storms you get to potentially relive the fun from ASR.
