There’s plenty to do in Pittsburgh for 5 days: Kennywood, Incline/Station Square/Mt.Washington/Gateway Clipper Cruise, Aviary/Children’s Museum, PNC baseball game, Sandcastle Waterslide Park, Heinz Museum, Carnegie Science Museum, Carnegie Natural History Museum, Idlewild Park, the Point, Pittsburgh Zoo/Aquarium, The Benedum, etc.
Also Carrie Blast Furnace tours. Haven’t been yet, plan to go there on our Pittsburgh trip next month (not with kids).
I love both those cities but feel like some of the Pittsburgh suggestions above are better for a 10 year old versus an 18 year old. Chicago will have more for an 18 year old. architectural tour, various museums, shopping, theater, music venues and concerts, festivals in summer, incredible eating at all price points with tremendous variety of cuisine. But no shade on Pittsburgh which is also great. But there’s a reason Chicago is America’s second city.
