I suspect you are in the majority!

I get the reasons for space research, and we should pursue it.  But life on earth -- addressing cancer *and* protecting our natural environment -- is by far the priority.

Why would anyone ever want to set up colonies or whatever on Mars?  If a barren, dusty, planet where a human can never go outside of the pod seems more appealing than Earth, then we have really, really screwed up here.[/quote]

You’re missing the point. He wants to colonize mars with the musk race. Why do you think he’s going around impregnating anyone who would have his offspring? Here on earth he will use every last of resources and make it unlivable for the rest of humanity.
