This week was telling. Trump caved on the tariffs. Trump thought that he was so smart but reality is a funny thing. Capital won. Or as Scott Gallagher likes to say the 10 year bond was the adult in the room. But also interesting was we got to see what a cuck Musk is. He thought he could manipulate Trump but instead, Trump listened to Navarro. Musk isn’t all powerful as he believes to be. Trump blinked (not the first time, won’t be the last), Elon got sidelined, and millions of Americans went to the streets up to oppose this regime. There's blood in the water.
He didn't blink if the intent was to isolate China - which he has.
It’s just unfathomable to some Americans that the US is not at the top of the heap in all things. So many maga people think the U.S. holds the leverage here. Even before the bond market did a u turn, it was China with the leverage all along. They buy corn and soybeans from the U.S., which are easily sourced elsewhere. They have a $1 trillion trade surplus with the U.S. They can take advantage of the withered trade relations with other countries that Trump has left in his wake. They will take this opportunity to displace the U.S. in soft power in Asia, Africa and South America. Trump is f’ing it all up, and all China has to do is watch it happen.
Countries will have to choose between doing business with the U.S. and doing business with China. Doing business with China requires many sacrifices for foreign companies that are not required to do business with the U.S. (and China has a tendency to steal IP). Also, the U.S. has tremendous natural resources that many countries want, including oil and natural gas.
The IP theft was done openly and we did nothing. Our sure doing anything about it now will stop China from advancing / taking over in IT at this point. Also, how many more Chinese cells are operating in the US and threatening Chinese immigrants especially more recent ones?? The government shut down one in a NY building a couple years ago. Can’t believe that’s the only one.
So we do nothing? Sorry, but the days of rolling over and just taking it are over. Either you want us to do something, or you don't. Choose.
