Capital won. Or as Scott Gallagher likes to say the 10 year bond was the adult in the room.
But also interesting was we got to see what a cuck Musk is. He thought he could manipulate Trump but instead, Trump listened to Navarro. Musk isn’t all powerful as he believes to be.
Trump blinked (not the first time, won’t be the last), Elon got sidelined, and millions of Americans went to the streets up to oppose this regime.
There's blood in the water.
He didn't blink if the intent was to isolate China - which he has.
No he’s isolated us. He managed to get China Japan and South Korea cooperating with each other.

China is far from isolated. All its trading arrangements with the other 200+ countries in the world remain in place. Meanwhile, the US has utterly isolated itself from all its trading partners and allies. The dollar is in freefall. Bond yields are skying as the rest of the world is selling treasuries because the US is now seen as an unsafe place to invest. As a result, even though we are going into a recession, we can expect very high interest rates. It's impossible for the Fed to lower rates now. Our economy is screwed and it will be very difficult to get out of it. And by destroying our economic ties to China we have also destroyed all our leverage over China's willingness to invade Taiwan. The only thing China feared was a US economic boycott. Well, Trump decided to ban trade with China anyway, which really raises the possibility that China will invade Taiwan since they will have little to fear now. The stupidity of Republicans will be studied for decades.
+1000
PP you are very correct.
Isn’t Orange Cheeto trying to get the Fed chair removed for not lowering interest rates?
It is a bad move lowering interest rates right now, as much as I would like it temporarily.
We have had the $ be the world’s currency for over 80 years, ie “Dollar Diplomacy” . That is going away.
The US is about to no longer a democracy (or a democratic republic). The world saw us as stable before, a country to aspire to be. It was expensive being the world’s policeman but we also reaped the benefits. How long are countries going to sit around while the Orange Cheeto ruins things?
The British pound was the used for world trade before the dollar. I wonder which currency will be used now? Bitcoin? The Japanese Yen?
I would love to read which currency PP thinks will be used next.
Would China attack Taiwan even though Taiwan manufactures the vast majority of the world’s computer chips? I am sure Taiwan would blow the factories up rather than see China get them.

China, Japan and S. Korea are aligning to work together. Trump pushed to of the USA allies into a cooperative trading alliance with China. China's not isolated. Europe is purchasing Chinese EV's not American EVs
Right, I don't think you isolate China by waging trade war against the entire world. It really says something that other countries now view China as more stable and reasonable than US.
China has been the most stable, reasonable country for 50 years.
China's problems are related to morality, not professional governance and economic activity.
Incorrect. China built it's economy on cheap labor and IP theft. Also, China manipulates it's currency, and there is little transparency into the Chinese stock markets. When China plays by the same rules as the rest of the world, let me know.

It’s just unfathomable to some Americans that the US is not at the top of the heap in all things. So many maga people think the U.S. holds the leverage here. Even before the bond market did a u turn, it was China with the leverage all along. They buy corn and soybeans from the U.S., which are easily sourced elsewhere. They have a $1 trillion trade surplus with the U.S. They can take advantage of the withered trade relations with other countries that Trump has left in his wake. They will take this opportunity to displace the U.S. in soft power in Asia, Africa and South America. Trump is f’ing it all up, and all China has to do is watch it happen.
Countries will have to choose between doing business with the U.S. and doing business with China. Doing business with China requires many sacrifices for foreign companies that are not required to do business with the U.S. (and China has a tendency to steal IP). Also, the U.S. has tremendous natural resources that many countries want, including oil and natural gas.
The IP theft was done openly and we did nothing. Our sure doing anything about it now will stop China from advancing / taking over in IT at this point. Also, how many more Chinese cells are operating in the US and threatening Chinese immigrants especially more recent ones?? The government shut down one in a NY building a couple years ago. Can’t believe that’s the only one.
