I understand that top leagues are competitive, secure the player earlier, blah blah blah - you still didn't answer why can't this happen in June?  If it was a rule across GA, MLSNext, ECNL, June 1 offers (like it is for March 1) - there would be zero reason then to have tryouts/offers in March.  If you say "March is before June and clubs don't want to wait until June" - i would counter, then why are they waiting until March? Why not start in January really get in there early.[/quote]

By rule, March 1 is the first day ECNL teams can begin tryouts in Virginia. I'm not sure about GA and MLSN but I would imagine it's the same since they are all competing against each other for talent.

Even after a club thinks the roster is set, there are still player movements because a player may have received a better offer from another club. There are parents that are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to hold a spot at multiple clubs and then decide which club they want to join. Players will move around as late as May before going on summer break. [/quote]

The ECNL tryout date is May 1 nationally. Northern Virginia is March 1 because GA does not have a  tryout date. GA clubs were having tryouts in January. It would be good if GA and ECNL could get on the same page for a date.[/quote]
