Why are people taking this drug to lose 15-20 pounds? It seems so irresponsible for doctors to prescribe it for this reason. Also, who knows the long term side effects of these drugs. Is it worth the risk for vanity pounds that could likely be lost through diet changes?
To be honest, I always thought I only had 15 to 20 vanity pounds to lose, and when I went in for my physical, I found that I was in the obese range, my A1c had me in the prediabetic range and my cholesterol was high. I had already been trying to lose weight for a long time and couldn’t get it to budge. Perimenopause and insulin resistance Were also making it harder. I did decide to go on the medication at an extremely low dose and kept doing what I was doing – daily LISS cardio (zone 2), weightlifting 3x weekly, eating protein focused at a calorie deficit. I lost 40 lbs which it turns out is NOT vanity weight, changed my body and my life!! I’m slowly weaning off it and have a plan on how to maintain my weight loss without it, but if I can’t, I will absolutely go on an extremely low dose. There’s nothing worse for the human body than being obese and gaining and losing the same 10 pounds. That’s not vanity, that’s health, and it’s a gift to myself in honor of my beautiful children and my amazing family. For context I’m a 48yo female, 5’4”, went from 175 to 135. Almost NO side effects!! Many people go up to the max dose of 15 mg but I only got up to 3.5 mg and went up super slowly and I’m going down slowly, I’m already at 1 mg a week now and have a plan to taper off if I can.
