Where are these warehouses located, though? I only order DoorDash from places within a mile of my house because I want my food hot and fresh. I have lots of options because I live in NW DC. I’m not waiting over an hour for my food to get made and transported from NE.
I was thinking something similar, I live in NoVa and cant think of anywhere that is zoned for industrial use that is within food-staying-warm-driving-distance to my home. Usually when cities/towns/jurisdictions are developed, city planners put the industrial/warehouse districts far from rich neighborhoods and close to poor neighborhoods. I would assume (knowing next to nothing about the restaurant/food delivery industry which seems to be the case for everyone else commenting on this thread) that people who are spending their disposable income on delivery food want it to come warm and edible. If they live far from where the food is made and it comes cold and not delicious, they will stop ordering. But the people who live near these industrial kitchens who would get hot delicious food dont have the extra disposable income to do so regularly. So it wouldnt seem to be a successful long-term proposition due to economics.
