Have you ever considered that if you want food that is hot and fresh, you could (1) actually go eat at the restaurant where the food is being prepared, or (2) make your own dinner?

Or (3) hire a personal chef.

It's weird to be condescending about this idea when you're being lazy and entitled in the least sensible way.

Isnt door dash and the like made for lazy entitled people though? This is your target market!

I was thinking something similar, I live in NoVa and cant think of anywhere that is zoned for industrial use that is within food-staying-warm-driving-distance to my home.

Usually when cities/towns/jurisdictions are developed, city planners put the industrial/warehouse districts far from rich neighborhoods and close to poor neighborhoods. I would assume (knowing next to nothing about the restaurant/food delivery industry which seems to be the case for everyone else commenting on this thread) that people who are spending their disposable income on delivery food want it to come warm and edible. If they live far from where the food is made and it comes cold and not delicious, they will stop ordering. But the people who live near these industrial kitchens who would get hot delicious food dont have the extra disposable income to do so regularly. So it wouldnt seem to be a successful long-term proposition due to economics.

We have something out here called local kitchens which is basically a counter service / uber eats door dasher ghost like kitchen for several restaurants. The physical setup is a small, yet nice counter ordering cashier station and a huge kitchen area. Lots of variety in restaurants but each restaurant has a limited menu.

Food trucks are big out here too. One of our neighbors organizes with some company that schedules food trucks. During the summer, we get a food truck in the neighborhood about once or twice a month on a Friday. She sends an email out to the neighborhood and surrounding ones. As long as they good business, which they always do they do it without charge to the neighborhood.

It's weird to think takeout needs to be made in a centralized kitchen discrete from the dine in restaurant.

Well, they’re deporting all the delivery drivers, so enjoy higher prices and colder food!

People seem incapable or totally unwilling to put forth any effort to cook. They’d rather wait 30+ min for their takeout (between calling it in driving there, waiting, driving back) or even more time with door dash. For what? Mediocre cold food that is terrible for you? I don’t get it. Just cook. Make something easy

This is usually my go to as I don't like most takeout and love scrambled eggs and avocado toast etc. but many people younger than my millennial self didn't learn to cook quick and eat it just want to treat themselves since they think they deserve it for working hard.

They they can enjoy cold, overpriced, wrong food and we don't need to feel bad for them. People learn to cook when they are desperate. You want to eat something and the only way to get it is to make it yourself. Eventually they will get there.

This is particularly true during "Dry January" when nobody is having drinks. You can thank the cannabis industry and whatever force is behind the war on low to moderate alcohol use for the eventual demise of the restaurant industry. I predict that within 5 years we will have very few restaurants left to enjoy.

So true! Ever notice how there are no restaurants in Muslim countries where alcohol isn't served? /s
