Last year, 12/15 was the last school day before winter break; this year, the last school day before winter break is 12/20. One hopes that they won't hold on to the scores so parents can't contact the school if they have questions, but the notification schedule only says parents will find out "before winter break." https://www.fcps.edu/academics/student-tests-assessments/grade-level-tests
You think the strategy is to give the parents no time to call the school so they give scores the day before winter break?
Well, there is something twisted about holding onto the information for so long. Yes, parents can provide referrals, but they are time-consuming, and I might prefer to save my additional information in case of an appeal. These computer-based test scores should not be so slow to come out. When administered online, CogAT scores are available immediately or within a few days (including "norming"). Any additional time to process is based on FCPS internal procedures and policies.
Don't do the bolded. Just don't do it. Give the best presentation you can of your kid now, just like your AART should be trying to do. That way you hopefully don't have to appeal. And FCPS will definitely wait until Friday before a break to release information where possible. They love giving AAP admissions information on the Friday right before spring break. To be fair, given that it's 6 teachers from a random school determining if your kid is in AAP or not, it's not fair for your school or central office to be flooded with calls about AAP status and appeals. And similarly given that central office does the in-pool numbers, it's not fair for say your kids' second grade teacher or the testing coordinator at your school to get complaints about the timing of the emails. So they try to minimize the possibility that people will call.
I disagree that they will wait until the Friday before winter break. When a child is in pool, I've seen that the AART will sometimes reach out to the parent to request a parent referral form as well, to put more information into the packet. They'll need to do that before Dec 15. If I had to guess, I think they'll release the COGAT scores tomorrow. Just my opinion - we shall see!
