I wonder what the résumé's are on the players that were freshman and got playing time vs that player leaving.

Definitely true but someone dropped the ball in all of the situations, whether it was a poor job on the recruiter, or maybe player was coddled? There's a hierarchy at the college level, you MUST earn your minutes and it's even more so to do that as an incoming freshman looking to take away time from older players.[/quote]

Recruiter = coach (one of the coaches) Coaches also dictate playing time.
This year is a tough year for freshman as there are numerous grad students playing their 5th (Covid) year.   
Once you get to college - it's a start over.  Whatever your club coach thought of you doesn't matter. 
Penn State is paying quite a few 5th year players - they will not be outplaced by a mediocre freshman. They are playing freshmen but only the best of the freshmen.
