I’m a huge Beatles fan, but John was not a good guy. He was abusive to women and treated Julian like garbage.
This. He was an okay artist ( he and the Beatles are hugely overrated in my opinion). I still like some of the music, but John Lennon the man was trash a lot of what he did has been overlooked because of the time he lived, because of his tragic death, and his stans and stans of the Beatles.
I guarantee you every band that you like worships The Beatles.
Not only that, but the Beatles have influenced virtually every band that came after them. They essentially invented the rock band, the stadium tour, the merchandising contract … The Beatles defined the contours of the music industry as we know it. People don’t have to love them, but to call them overrated is just ignorant.
Sure, The Beatles have an unquestionable place in music history. They influenced the sound of popular music. I don't think anyone is rejecting that. They didn't invent music bands, though they were one of the first big ones in the new genre called rock. Elvis Presley went on the first stadium tour. Elvis Presley had a merchandising contract before The Beatles did.
They were the first rock band. Elvis did not form a rock band. Before the Beatles, bands were primarily one person backed by others. Elvis fit that mold. So did Buddy Holly. The Beatles were the first musical group where all members contributed to the songwriting and all members were known as equal members of the group. Elvis also did not go on a stadium tour. The first stadium show was 1965 shea stadium. The Beatles had the first modern merchandising deal.
Ok, let me specify: Elvis did play stadiums. But he did not do an extensive stadium TOUR. He played a 5 date stint. The Beatles did 3 separate, long stadium tours. They started stadium rock.
5-day tour = stadium tour Let's not now qualify. Not only is there room for other musical artists in your pantheon of musical greatness, but there are artists who made strides earlier than The Beatles.
Please make a list for us of the songs Elvis wrote. Go ahead, we'll all wait. Elvis and his father were so ignorant they literally refused to shelter their income because they believed the more taxes you paid, the more wealthy you were. They attempted to buy a huge plot of land in Mississippi and made the seller aware of who the buyer was. Guess how much the seller jacked up the price once he found out which financial geniuses wanted to buy it.
