They've hade society incredibly hostile to stay at home parents as well so I don't think we'll see a lot of younger generations having kids until that changes. If any family goes single income for raising children, not only they face financial difficulties but lots of stigma painting SAHP as free loader and earner as controlling trad spouse. When at an appropriate time SAHP wants to go back to work, they deal with so many hurdles. [/quote]

It's true that society-- particularly due to housing costs-- has made it impractical to have SAHPs. But that's not what is driving the decisions to not have kids. Young people want financial independence and to feel self-worth. I don't know anyone under 40 that wanted to quit working. But child care costs have simply gotten too expensive. And in the DMV, we saw the bourgeoisie willing to close schools for 18 months without regard for the impact on kids or parents. This is an incredibly hostile area for families unless you're uber-rich.[/quote]
