Why can’t we move Montessori back into Drew? I know politics but is that really going to get in the way of the most obvious and cheapest fix?
That was a terrible idea then and a terrible idea today. Drew deserves to be its own neighborhood school. AMAC needs to stop sucking all of the oxygen.
ok fine then let's just close Drew. It's not tenable to keep it open when no one wants to go there and it's soooo underenrolled.
When they were discussing Montessori leaving Drew the young families.im the neighborhood that showed up to meetings wanted to move immersion to drew.. Then make claremont a neighborhood school
Yes, that was one of the ideas discussed in the south arlington working group. It was a good suggestion. Claremont at the time was very crowded, Oakridge was well above capacity and looking at even worse crowding (hence a push for what became Fleet to be build in the 22206 area instead of the TJ site). Drew also would be closer to more native Spanish-speaking students than Claremont. But there was no way anything but a neighborhood school was going to be in Drew. it's not about what's best for the system; it's about what's most feasible after catering to specific interests and political optics.
