Yes

MPSA doesn't need to exist. It was special interests (and a former board member) who put yet another option program facility in in the first place. It only serves privileged parents who don't want to go to private school.

Tear down their building and just phase everyone out. Problem solved.

I don't even understand why they were separated in the first place. MPSA was put in a much crappier building, while Drew never really got that influx of students. I chalk it to APS Planning Department being the planning department. They've never gotten it right.

The planning department had to react to all the community input crap that objected to (1) any splitting up of Henry students, even though Henry was overcrowded and (2) anyone else terrified of being districted to Drew. They at least tried to draw a boundary that put Drew in the lowest FRL% range they could while still abiding by the ridiculous boundary principle of "contiguity." But even that didn't satisfy the community that insisted on "contiguity" in boundaries because they didn't want to be sent to Drew.

No, that was the problem that was solved by separating them. They need different administrative teams and they don't operate on the same bell schedule. Sorry that you're so late to the game; but this is ancient history now. You're just gonna have to take our word for it that there were good reasons for the two to be separated - beyond Montessori's self-interests and strong advocacy for their own building.

Yes, that was one of the ideas discussed in the south arlington working group. It was a good suggestion. Claremont at the time was very crowded, Oakridge was well above capacity and looking at even worse crowding (hence a push for what became Fleet to be build in the 22206 area instead of the TJ site). Drew also would be closer to more native Spanish-speaking students than Claremont. But there was no way anything but a neighborhood school was going to be in Drew. it's not about what's best for the system; it's about what's most feasible after catering to specific interests and political optics.

It wouldn't have been "soooo underenrolled" if APS had used some guts when creating the boundaries when Fleet opened and Montessori moved out.

The other one is Nottingham. There were real complaints about them years ago, but I haven't heard anything recently. My children didn't go to either school.
