We lived in Amsterdam in 2018/19 My U12 son was on a 'Travel' club The facilities had 4 fields, locker rooms, clubhouse and cafeteria. We paid €300 for a year and that covered everything including travel for the players. Kids who couldn't afford paid less or nothing. It was painful coming home to the States and paying more than that just for uniforms
I’m not sure how this is possible? Are all coaches volunteers? Are facilities and fields free? Is travel/hotels donated?
I’m hoping PP will respond, but as a European, I assume that the clubs are heavily supported by the multiple levels of local and big league teams. These teams sell ticket, and have the love and devotion of their entire country behind them. That’s a lot of power. This power can easily pay for these kids’ development.
There were raffles and the cafeteria sold stuff for parents waiting for players and catered events and there were other events put on by the club and neighborhood. Not privy to all the financial workings Pay for play as a system is a cultural choice
