If you don't take the classes they tell you to, I agree. There was a thread a few weeks ago where someone was mad their kid didn't get in and said "well, he didn't take AP English, but..."

Look at the foreign language threads where people say they know you're supposed to take it, but they decide they don't have to because they know someone who got in despite not taking it.

I agree.  These schools are very clear about what they want.  "most rigorous curriculum offered".  "four years in core courses".  7-12 AP courses.  Etc. etc.  All the information is out there.  Always ask your high school college counselor for advice before making a decision. Google.  Call the admissions office.  Look up information on College Confidential and Reddit.  Always read the stats of the kids rejected or deferred or waitlisted from the previous year.  It is stunning how accomplished these kids are.[/quote]
