Hey Fox News, don't make stuff up. I was the poster. I shared my kids high stats and speculated that he likely got WL because he chose not to take AP English. There was no anger or animosity. Nice story though.

There's no precise in-state cutoff although your own high school college counselor might be able to look at your Naviance chart and give you a more precise figure for your particular school. The SCHEV stats indicate the following (might be of some help). The GPA reported by last year's incoming UVA class reported a 4.51 at the 75th percentile, a 4.38 at the median and a 4.20 at the bottom 25th percentile; the ACT scores were 34/33/32 in same categories The SATs were 780/760/710 for Quantitative and 750/730/700 for verbal. Look at the foreign language threads where people say they know you're supposed to take it, but they decide they don't have to because they know someone who got in despite not taking it.

I agree. These schools are very clear about what they want. "most rigorous curriculum offered". "four years in core courses". 7-12 AP courses. Etc. etc. All the information is out there. Always ask your high school college counselor for advice before making a decision. Google. Call the admissions office. Look up information on College Confidential and Reddit. Always read the stats of the kids rejected or deferred or waitlisted from the previous year. It is stunning how accomplished these kids are.

Remember some school districts give a GPA boost for Honors/intensified classes. Other school districts, like my own kids' district, give a GPA boost for AP classes only. I don't know how UVA factors that in -- maybe by looking for the class rank. DC is at the 4.3 range, ranked relatively high in the class, and would likely be closer to 4.5 with an Honors/intensified boost.

Keep your head up. DD got in ED with a 4.12 weighted this year. Don’t let anyone tell you it can’t be done.

But that's because in YOUR HIGH SCHOOL a 4.12 is comparably high. My 4.05 kid got into UVA because that's as high as her school went. She was no 1 in her class. Your student is compared to the other students in their own high school (or past grads) who apply. UVA picks off the best students
