Kids at MLS Professional Club Academies like Philly Union, LA Galaxy, NY Red Bulls etc missing a couple days school (with tutoring to makeup) where it's free and no travel expenses makes sense. If you're on pay-to-play team and have to miss school, foot travel expenses and take time off from work and other hassles, a bit too much.
This doesn't make sense. Not all kids on academy make it to the pros. My kid misses school for soccer, but does the work. This is kind of like saying everyone should be in the office because no one can telework. My kid is great at making sure to keep up grades at school. Not a big deal.
Not all kids at Any Academy in the World make it to Pros. Not even Man City or Real Madrid Academy. However, the odds are Highest and Most Likely in the favor of kids at a Professional Club Academy to become a professional player than kids who are not. Feel free to pull-up the roster of any Division 1 professional team in Europe or England and look at "Youth Career" of players.
