If you're on pay-to-play team and have to miss school, foot travel expenses and take time off from work and other hassles, a bit too much.
2 DD’s. One received and one will receive free college education thanks to showcases they missed school for.
Full College Scholarships on the Boys Side for Soccer are rare and limited.
It’s not about the money for the boys (there is barely any). But it can get you into a college you might otherwise not have gotten into (gives you an edge similar to other extra curriculars). If you are good enough it pushes you over the line assuming you meet a minimum standard for the school. If the goal is college support, showcases aren’t any different than debate tournaments that kids miss school for.

Do high schoolers skip classes to play soccer?! It's one thing to get out a little early but this is a full day of school! It really is hard to catch up in high school. How many of these tournaments are there?!
Yes they do miss school. And use the excuse letter. My hs asks for it and makes it an excused absence.

How much school do college players miss? Do we as a society care about kids and education?
College players usually miss a couple of classes/days for competitions while they're in season. Not too many if they avoid scheduling classes late in the day/on Fridays, but sometimes it's unavoidable. The absence is generally "excused" as a it's a university-sponsored event... same as if they were traveling with the marching band or another official group representing the university. Students missing class for university events are supposed to provide professors with the event schedule at the beginning of the semester and come up with a plan to make up the work before they leave or soon after they return (whatever the professor decides). They can't be penalized for not attending class on those dates.
Professors have to fill out progress reports for student-athletes. If an athlete is missing a bunch of classes beyond what's in the competition schedule they provided, that gets reported. The student athlete support office does not want kids failing classes, as it can make them ineligible to compete.

This doesn't make sense. Not all kids on academy make it to the pros. My kid misses school for soccer, but does the work. This is kind of like saying everyone should be in the office because no one can telework. My kid is great at making sure to keep up grades at school. Not a big deal.

Extremely rare. It’s so different for boys and girls.
There can be zero comparison. It’s extremely extremely hard to even get a spot that you have to pay for.
It’s been said time and time again- girls are t competing with big level Football and Basketball the schools’ main $ makers, nor do they have the degree of international players and older rosters/transfers.

One year my u10 was in an alexandria or Arlington tournament and the game was between 3-5pm on a Friday so he had to leave school a little early for that with evening traffic. All local tournaments try and put local teams games on Friday if needed instead of out of town teams.
U10?????
Try high school recruiting years on ECNL and MLSNext level teams. My 17-year old is headed to Phoenix for the first week in December. Missing this Friday for a 10am game. Had a showcase in Atlanta early January.
The younger one is missing a Friday for a Charlotte showcase in 2 weeks and then it’s 4-5 other days for a showcase in Florida and a couple trips to NC & SC with Friday travel days.
The higher the level team and age—the more travel.
