As they get older, and at higher levels of play - as a regular or guest player - playing time is not a guarantee. We often have guest players join our away games - because we know they are good enough to play with us - sometimes they are the "b" team, sometimes playing up from a team below us in age. The coach has asked them because we need to ensure we have a strong bench with players capable of the level of play. It's rare they will be starters, and depending on the substitution rules for the league - they may not get much if any playing time. Its the way the game is and our guest players understand that. If your player and your family feel like your player deserves, rather than earned more playing time as a guest - it's unlikely you will be invited again. It sounds like your player has certain expectations that are unlikely to be fulfilled.
Guest players are doing your team a favor. Be thankful that you have people willing to spend three or four hours in the car for their kid to play 5 minutes. We had a coach like that and once word got around to the B team and the younger teams, he had a lot of trouble finding anyone willing to make the drive.
I definitely agree. But this can be a little frustrating for existing bench players that get limited time to begin with but now have to share their limited playing time with guess players too.
Guests shouldn't be invited unless their is a need. If you already have 13 or 14 kids going, you don't need a guest.
13 or 14 at 9 v9, maybe. Not for 11 v 11. you need around 18 -20 players.
You do not need 18 players for 11 v 11. You need 13 or 14. The majority of players should be able to play the entire game. 20 is ridiculous
Your kids haven't hit high school age. There are a lot of injuries. Just because kids show up doesn't mean that they aren't injured.
