If your player and your family feel like your player deserves, rather than earned more playing time as a guest - it's unlikely you will be invited again. It sounds like your player has certain expectations that are unlikely to be fulfilled.

Guest players are doing your team a favor. Be thankful that you have people willing to spend three or four hours in the car for their kid to play 5 minutes. We had a coach like that and once word got around to the B team and the younger teams, he had a lot of trouble finding anyone willing to make the drive.

I definitely agree. But this can be a little frustrating for existing bench players that get limited time to begin with but now have to share their limited playing time with guess players too.

Guests shouldn't be invited unless their is a need. If you already have 13 or 14 kids going, you don't need a guest.

13 or 14 at 9 v9, maybe. Not for 11 v 11. you need around 18 -20 players.

You do not need 18 players for 11 v 11. You need 13 or 14. The majority of players should be able to play the entire game. 20 is ridiculous

You need 18-20 if you wanna ensure the higher level execs are putting filet on their table every night!

You need 18 on a roster. For a game 13 or 14 is enough. Kids should be playing the whole game or most of it. 20 means that some kids either barley play or some kids only play half

Most leagues have roster limits of 18 eligible players for each game. Guest players are limited as well and typically can only be "with in-club" players. Substitution rules dictate playing time. There is a balance between having the right number subs and playing time. NOthing worse that have 11 players and someone gets injured or a bench of 18 and only 13 players play. Its not an easy thing for coaches to manage. You also never know who is going to call in sick, injured or get lost on the way to the game...

If there isn’t enough playing time for the guest to play, then the team didn’t need the guest

Unless your team is a youth national, collegiate, or professional team, I would kindly tell them to pound sand if they invited one of my kids to be a guest and sat them on the bench. Life is too short for that crap.

Let's see. Do you have a choice? OMG, Yes you do. You can say NO! Amazing really.Having choices.

Your kids haven't hit high school age. There are a lot of injuries. Just because kids show up doesn't mean that they aren't injured.

They are in high school. We start the season with 18 and have so far finished with between 15 and 13 since they moved to 11v11.. If they can't get 13, the will use guests.

Again. What is the outcome for the team? If they are at a high level of play, they want a win. I can't remember what league your player is in - but some leagues have strict substitution rules - they aren't unlimited. "Matches in the 15U, 16U, 17U, 18U and 19U age groups will operate under the
FIFA-7 players “per half” substitution system (limited substitution). Once replaced, players cannot re-enter the game during that half of play." This has impacted regular players in addition to guest players. A high level of play is not about equal playing time. You have an option to participate.

If you can't play the player, then you don't need a guest. My kid plays USYS and they usually have 14 or 15 for a game by the end of a season due to injuries.
