It's much better to live outside of that Lord of the Flies culture, with caring friends and strong family and sociall values.
+1 DD is on the fringes, but has found wonderful group of friends I hope she keeps for life. They are very studious and preppy, not popular. Our family is amongst the large donors and I too am in the fringe parent group. Everyone is kind and polite to me but I don't get invited to things and I don't care either. Most of the time I'm very out of the loop because I don't do social media. I think the parents of the popular kids are also friends with each other. I'm fine with that. I don't think there are any downsides. In fact, I think my DD and her friends are probably among the teacher favorites. Their polite, smart, friendly with everyone. I've even had teachers say they wish they could clone her.
Kewl
