My wife AND family attend the annual board meeting. It is offsite at a five star resort over several days. My wife also attends company holiday party and annual board dinner. My wife and family have been invited twice on job interviews out of state. You can tell a lot by a persons family. If a spouse is not on board male or female with their spouses job and career not going to work. And your spouse and kids better behave. The “cut of one’s jib” is important.
That's actually a salient point. How many CEOs and VPs are being interviewed with their families on-site? Is it at the 5th interview? The 6th? I saw a post a few weeks' ago about a person who had to travel to meet their boss and it turns out they were requested to meet with the CEO in surprise the same day. Corporations do want to know you're surrounded by acceptable people.
Seems kinda messed up to ding a candidate based on their family. What if a kid is special needs? Or spouse has a disability? What if the candidate is single or lives with a partner? Really weird to assess a candidate based on their family.
In my case I interviewed two out of state jobs at a senior level that required I sell my house, move my family and buy a new house near their office. My jobs were to start immediately, my wife would be in charge packing up old house and arranging all that and kids moving schools and states. My wife was a SAHM, I told them I can move no problem asap, stay in apt in new state next few months and wife and kids are on board with it. I think they wanted to verify that
Same, for c level relocations into a long term position they fly in your spouse and kids to your the area, have dinner, and they gauge how serious you all are about moving before giving a verbal and then written offer. They will ask your spouse: so, how do you feel about moving to Dearborn Michigan?
