The current number is still shocking and an outlier among major cities. Remember, the USAO is a federal appointee and works for DOJ as do staff prosecutors. That office prosecutes crimes committed by adults and by some juveniles.

The DC AG is elected and prosecutes most juvenile crime.

Not sure what next steps will be. Bowser and the Council were aware since at least 2018 that the majority of arrests, including gun crimes and felonies were not being prosecuted. They did nothing to bring public or Congressional attention to this issue. There will likely be additional Congressional Oversight hearings.
