Downtown Savannah is roughly 15 minutes off of I-95. It is not a huge detour, like visiting Charleston.

The Staybridge Inn & Suites  on East Bay Street is a very nice spot with kitchenettes and larger rooms. It is within walking distance to many attractions.[/quote]

You don’t know how long the op will have been driving beforehand or what their family’s limit is in terms of driving. Not everyone likes to drive in the dark. Some people prefer to stop for a late dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Or maybe they know a family who drove a long haul trip and the driver fell asleep at the wheel and flipped the car, prompting tragic results.
