The touristy part of Savannah is a ways off the interstate. It’s not really a pit stop place. Where are you coming from and where are you heading?
Downtown Savannah is roughly 15 minutes off of I-95. It is not a huge detour, like visiting Charleston. The Staybridge Inn & Suites on East Bay Street is a very nice spot with kitchenettes and larger rooms. It is within walking distance to many attractions.
Regardless of how far off course or what is nearby, it is a waste to stop. Assuming you have kids, this is a dumb idea and a waste of time.
Oy vey. You don’t know how long the op will have been driving beforehand or what their family’s limit is in terms of driving. Not everyone likes to drive in the dark. Some people prefer to stop for a late dinner and a good night’s sleep. Or maybe they know a family who drove a long haul trip and the driver fell asleep at the wheel and flipped the car, prompting tragic results.
