Where are you coming from and where are you heading?
Downtown Savannah is roughly 15 minutes off of I-95. It is not a huge detour, like visiting Charleston.
The Staybridge Inn & Suites on East Bay Street is a very nice spot with kitchenettes and larger rooms. It is within walking distance to many attractions.
Regardless of how far off course or what is nearby, it is a waste to stop. Assuming you have kids, this is a dumb idea and a waste of time.
Or maybe the kids will have fun in Savannah on the way! Mine loved The Pirate House, the Tybee lighthouse, Lady and Sons, etc. while growing up.
Haven't been to Savannah in a while, but this sounds like a good suggestion. I am not familiar with the hotel, but this is a great location. And, if you have kids, The Pirate's House is a good place to go. I don't know how the food is these days, but it really was a place for pirates once upon a time. If you have a Girl Scout, Juliette Low's house might be intersting--but it is basically just an old house and furnishings. Walk around the squares. Christ Church might be worth a visit, too.
Lots of good food in Savannah and lots of places to choose from.
