Cornell University is better suited for the Big Ten Conference and Northwestern would be more comfortable in the Ivy League. One has a school of agriculture and the other does not. One hires its presidents from the Big Ten and the other does not. One has ice hockey and the other doesn't. Sometimes nature has a sense of humor and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, it does.
Northwestern hired its current President from Oregon, which is moving to the Big Ten next year (although it will be just about at the bottom there academically).
Also they hired the president of Wisconsin prior to this one. She tragically died of cancer before she could start. Cornell had past presidents/provosts from Michigan. Then again so did Dartmouth, Columbia, MIT, and heaven forbid, Princeton.
