Few people don't believe in any government or laws at all, and everybody has different conceptions for what a free and just society society looks like. So why do right-wingers insist that they're "pro-freedom" and liberals and the left are "against freedom"?
Whatever people “say” on either side, this hardly seems like a wedge issue. Rs favor self reliance and “smaller government” (at least with respect to social welfare, the Rs are fully capable of breaking budgets for their own pet spending priorities). Ds favor more, ever larger social welfare programs, which come with terms and conditions, which place limits on individual rights. “Freedom” is the absence of such terms and conditions? Thats my gut reaction anyway.
