Whatever people “say” on either side, this hardly seems like a wedge issue.
Rs favor self reliance and “smaller government” (at least with respect to social welfare, the Rs are fully capable of breaking budgets for their own pet spending priorities). Ds favor more, ever larger social welfare programs, which come with terms and conditions, which place limits on individual rights. “Freedom” is the absence of such terms and conditions? Thats my gut reaction anyway.

Add to that the fact that the current administration pressured social media to censor and delete accounts of people who disagreed with the government narrative - even if those people dissenting were right.
The Democrats are proving daily that they are against freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and other freedoms outlined in our Constitution.

You a**holes were horrible to essential workers and health care workers and everyone else who was working to keep civil society functioning, so every kind of building or facility had to either shut down or limit access. It wasn’t the Democrats who did it. It was every rational person in the country being forced to protect themselves from you moronic a**holes who couldn’t be responsible citizens for a few weeks. That's intellectually dishonest. Republicans don't believe that gun control will reduce mass shootings. That is a different belief than "supporting" mass shootings. I could argue that democrats support mass shootings because they cut funding to law enforcement and demand more lenient sentences for violent offenders. But I wouldn't make that argument because I have scruples.
