APS teacher: DIBELS: each year’s test is different so you can’t compare benchmarks across grade levels. Students are only tested in a single passage each b, m, and EOY. It’s a benchmarking test and does not give us your student’s “level” if that makes sense. If your child is in the blue range, they are considered “advanced” compared to the norm group nationwide but it doesn’t tell us their level. Green is proficient and what we want to see for all students. The test is heavily weighted on fluency words correct per minute/WCPM, so if your student was below the benchmark for that even by 1 word, they cannot be in green overall. -MI. I have a middle schooler who is also showing “Q” as their MI score, not sure why. The scores for this do cross grade levels and the test is adaptive meaning it keeps going up until your student hits the limit of their knowledge. Teachers rate students as to their math ability at the end of the year overall (above, at, below, well below) but otherwise we are not asked for any input for students to go into pre-algebra for 6th. The rest is based on test scores from SOL, MI, and a 3rd quarter APS assessment we had to give. We don’t get any other information. They don’t tell us the benchmark scores for any of it.
