This is such an American take. I used to live in Europe and it’s common there to take 3-4 weeks of vacation in the summer. Basically all of Western Europe shuts down for the month of August and guess what, it’s glorious and the world doesn’t end.[/quote]

Yes, we are in America, where people may work for European companies or have jobs with clients in Europe.  You can slow down when they do.  It’s glorious!
