Coming from an upbringing with nothing and basically abject poverty wherein I didn't even have a choice if something was going to be done by someone else or hired, I'll say this - just because someone can survive and suffer doesn't mean they should. There's no "coming from the gutter" award. I'm now in a position to pay for things for my kids - and I do, because I can. And my oldest is well into adulthood - productive and self-reliant and all the things. Having the means to make things easier on your kids so they can focus on school and fun is not infantilizing them. I'm able to help and I do. It's so weird that ppl want their kids to do the suffer olympics just because - I promise you all the true life lessons are still be learned.[/quote]
