Chromebook Damage Financial Responsibility Information

If your Chromebook is lost or broken, you will incur an obligation ranging from $25 (for a lost/broken charger or minor damage) to $150 for a loss or total replacement needed.  You will need to pay online and bring your receipt to Stonegate's main office to get a replacement, or make arrangements to pay in cash at MCPS’s office at 45 West Gude Drive.

Physical damage (intentional or accidental) to a device will result in a financial obligation. There is no fee for device malfunction, software issues, or hardware failure.

So it seems extremely subjective whether a principal demands payment for malfunctions.

IMO if you didn't hit it with a baseball bat or stomp on it, you should refuse to pay for normal wear and tear on these cheap junk devices that the school forced upon the students and made them carry around all year.
